i have a friend who does construction work with heavy equiptment and drives a dump truck all day. he told me that all the truckers he knows are having problems with the grade of diesel fuel now. it seems the government has lowered the amount of sulphur to be used in diesel and its causing major lub problems with injector pumps and engine life. he said that it helps to use diesel fuel conditioner in it, but for his farm tractors he has gone to using off road diesel and it works better. he had been using over-the-road diesel in a massey and every where there was a rubber piece in the fuel system it was leaking. he switched over to off road and the leaks quit. anybody else had these problems?

The origional low sulphur had some pump lube problems. The later ultra low sulphur fuel has had a lube additive packaged added. I've always used the ultra low sulphur diesel in my tractors since it came on the market. The sehd, tractor and exhaust doens't "stink like diesel" anymore. The cost is a little more for highway fuel but the nose says it's worth it.

I just had a conversation about this yesterday with our fuel man. here in mi he only gets ultra low and that is mostly all that is available. there have been additaves already added {mandated by law} he does this incase someone puts colored fuel in there new pickup so it wont plug the cat converter. performance should be the same may cause leaks and good water seperator a must

I was going to post similar question as to what works better. I pulled up to a wallmart the other day and was going to fill a 5 gallon. It had a sticker saying it was low sulpher and that new vehicles could not use it. Also it is called polar blend and who knows what that is exactly anyway. Is it polar for arkansas or polar for alaska and minnesota? I use offroad #2 and give it addative and haven not had any -35 problems. But do wonder what is best sulpher amount for the old 4020. I am guessing that mid sulpher would be about best but there seems to be no inbetween,

I think the hi-sulphur off the road stuff is still available for farm equipment. You would have to go to a jobber, distributor to get it.
