What is the proper fuel to use in the old unstyled A. Is it a mixture of gasoline and #1 fuel? If it is, what is the percentage of the mixtures. The other question I have is should I just use gasoline and forget about the fuel mixture. Thanks for any and all replies.

I have a 39 A very similar to your 37 A. Except the 39 is styled.I bought it in 1979, I ran it on kerosene for 25 years. I suggest gas unless you are going to work it hard to get it hot enough to burn clean. My A ran better on Kero, and a gallon of kerosene lasts longer than a gallon of gas, but many fouled plugs,( and those plugs aint cheap) gummed up valves leading to a valve job from not reaching high enough temps. I switched to gas. If you do run Kerosene you will notice the tractor will puff out smoke rings. I miss the smoke rings. The tractors are not fussy, I would run gas and kero mixed depending on what I had at the time to run it, and it would run fine.

I usto run a 50/50 mix of diesel and gas in my 1935 B but now days I just stick with gas because its not worth the extra $$ to mix it. And yes I still work the old thing every summer raking hay with it

I am with John T. and would stick to the 87 octane gas if it gets ran enough to keep fresh gas in it. The premiuim unleaded tends to stay fresher longer, I guess due to more additives in it. Not to mention the Kerosene cost more than gas now. My dad and I both have '37 A's, both with 87 gas in them. Usually never driven or loaded long enough to get hot enough to burn the Kerosene either. You would need a good working screen or shutters to get up to operating temperature quickly. Happy tractoring, Jason.

Myslef n many other just use regular 87 octane gas nowadays to save a lot of trouble versus running any sort of Tractor Fuel or Kerosene etc. For one (to run Fuel) you gotta be sure n have a Hot Manifold (as that unstyled surely has) and an All Fuel carb (likely has that already also) and then start her on gas n get her up to 180 BEFORE switching to gas and then letting it run on gas again before shut down to purge the carb and have to worry abOUT A GOOD WORKING N NOT LEAKY 3 WAY SELECTOR VALVE N HAVE both TANKS GOOD N CLEAN N WORKING etc etc WHEWWWWW W plus it may foul the plugs if the temp isnt hot enough and the fuel blend isnt correct???

I do like the sweet different smell of an all fueler if YOU wanna go to all that trouble. Todays Kerosene is close to the old Distillate or Drip Fuel low octane tractor fuel they used way back when, maybe add a tad of gas to raise its octabe, unsure of the blends
