Does anyone know how to set the clearance on the left hand cover on the gov. for a G? I am getting a sound that is like a bearing going out, in the gov or on the fan shaft but they are all in great shape. If to much clearance will that effect the timing on the mag? Also is there a setting to the levelness in the fan shaft that needs to have attention? The tractor runs great but the noise is driving me crazy trying to figure out. Thanks for the input.

You can't just adjust the shims under the left bearing housing unless you also adjust shims between the governor & fanshaft. I take 'em BOTH off the tractor & turn 'em upside down on the bench. First HEEL the gears then set clearance by placing or removing shims as needed. Before heeling the gears, make sure they don't have burrs on the outer radius. When properly heeled the surfaces of both gears should meet in a straight line along the 45 degree bevel between the gears. Will make sense when you peer into the upside down governor attached to the fan shaft on the bench. Would hafta look it up but seems to me they run about .003". MUST still be heeled after clearance is set! Use a dial indicator! The growl may well be the rear fan shaft bearing. If it is a late G you may have a ventilator pump problem. Once had similar chronic problem on an A. The governor housing was defective from the factory! Where the governor is tapped for the pressure gauge fitting there is supposed to be a tiny hole (lessn a 64th) leading to the governor's right bearing. That hole did not exist on this '41A. This hole also is the oil supply for the rear fan shaft bearing. Make sure that hole is present and open! If you go through all this, they'll quit singing or growling which ever.
