What is the opinion of the experts on this board as whether or not to change the rod bolts when doiing an underhaul on 1975 engine from 7700 turbo bombine. Thanks.

Absolutely replace the rod bolts and make sure that the rods are properly machined to give the correct bearing "crush" when the new torque-to-yield rod bolts are used. The torque-to-yield bolts are good for one use. Period. The new bolts should be torqued to 55 lb.-ft. and then turned an additional 90 degrees. I'd also highly recommend having the pin bushings replaced also. Normally Deere 400-series connecting rods don't need any work in the big end of the rod, but you definitely want them checked.

Just got done rebuilding a 404T for our sprayer. The book says change them so we did to the tune of $112. Better to be safe than sorry. It's all the little details that make it a good overhaul.

Without question, change them out.
At a little over $100.00, it's cheap insurnce against a $12,000.00 engine coming apart.

I think it would be cheap insurance to keep the rods from going through a block ? I also think I read here before about having those rods checked out and resized.

Definitely do have the rods check to see if they are stretched.A good machine shop can do it and rebuild them if necessary.Usually about $15 a rod.
