The JD 430W front wheels will shake as you drive down a road in high gears. What needs to be done to solve this problem?
Thanks

I have a 430 i inherited from my uncle. He had a #35 loader with wide bucket he never took off. Since our fields are corrigated the front end got beat up pretty bad. I changed all of the steering components over the years he had it including the steering gear box. I have had the problem you mention too. One time it was that the arm on the top of the spindle got loose. Another time it was play in the ends of tie rods. This last year one of the nipples that engage the steering gear in the gear box came loose (mine were welded in). You may be able to tighten down the bolt as mentioned if other stuff is not worn too bad, if you tighten too much it will make it steer hard. I also had trouble with steering box comming loose where it bolts to the top of the pedistal. One of those bolts is tapered and don't tighten it too tight(voice of experience). These front ends are not especially heavy duty especially if you have a loader. I have modified tie rods from a combine to work on mine since Deere wanted $85 for the outer end a few years back. It will also make a difference if your wheels are not lined up correctly.

You should have the service manual as it answers this and most other questions.1-800-522-7448. If there is play and wear in the tie rods, tie arms or the axle spindles. The shimmy can not be adjusted out. Pull the nose cone & jack both front wheels off the round. The manual doesn't specify the front wheels off the ground but I have better luck this way. There is a grub screw and a lock nut on the top of the steering box. Loosen the lock and tighten the grub screw some then turn the steering lock to lock a couple of times. Keep tightening until there is a distinct bind a few places during the turn. In fact set it downright tight so it takes some effort to turn. Snug down the lock nut but beware it will change the grub screw setting some. Believe it or not once the weight is back on the wheels you won't feel the binding spots at all. If this doesn't work then it's time for internal work on the steering gears. Running the front tires a bit soft so they squat like radials will help some.
