My 60 has a whine just when driving it, sounds like it is the first reduction gear,or close to it,could there be a bad bearing or just wore gears?

I had a similar problem with my late styled A..found it was the outer first reduction shaft bearing in the cover...you can check it by pulling off the little 2 eared shaft end cover just behind the pulley...the bearing is loose in the housing in my tractor...not too bad, but loose enough to give the gears a little extra clearance and let them howl a little.

wear and tear...put in about 3or4 cans of STP in the differental oil to quieten those gears....

you can by that brg for about the same money as four cans of stp. is stp new name for restoration take a little and fix it right Kent

well, a new bearing ain't going to take but maybe 50% of the noise out. The rest of it is the worn out gears. Trust me, bubba.
