Hey guys, I'm looking at a low hour 4050. Any weak spots? A good tractor? Thanks for any input.

4050 is a great tractor. It came with either the turbo 329 engine or the non-turbo 466. Most folks around me prefer the one with the 466 engine, but the 329 is a good engine also. One note is the 329 engine in the 4050 had a unique crankshaft due to the fact that the pilot hole was bigger for the transmission oil pump shaft. No other 329 equiped tractor had this bigger bore hole in the end of the crank. I would not be afraid of the 466 or the 329. The 329 may be a little harder to start in cold weather due to the fact that Deere turboed engines are a little harder starting in cold weather than their natural aspirated counterparts. Hope this helps.

I have a 1985 4050 with a 466 and it is a good tractor. We use it mostly on a 15foot batwing on steep hills and the thing just keeps on going. Put on a water pump in 6000 hours and that is all the money spent on the old girl. It will be the last tractor to leave this farm.

John,I own a 4255 that I bought in '93 that has given me excellent service(9200 hrs). If the one you're looking at has the 466 engine in it it's very similiar. Tx Jim
