I am curious to know if anyone has experience using an 820 or 830 as a pulling tractor. What I had in mind was a tractor for the 9,000, and 10,000 pound Farm Class. I thought if pressed wheels with 18.4 tires on the back were added and a couple of weight brackets , and if it could get balanced that an 820 or 830 would be the put put from hell in the heavy classes. Some one with experience let me know how they pull, and what are some advantages and disadvanges Thanks for the input and suggestions in advance. Greg H.

I've pulled my 820 on and off for a few years and I can tell you that it pulls best when weighted down. If the pull is farm stock (any age with torque amplifiers allowed) I leave it home. In the antique class (1960 or older) it sucks in the 9,000 (no traction). It is real happy at 14,500 pounds, but it takes a lot of creative places to hang the weights. Believe it or not there are 720's and 730's that do much better because they can find more places to put weight over the rear end. If I want to be competitive I stick with the A's in the 4500# class. I hate to admit it but the Massey 98 kicks everyones butts around here in the heavy classes.

Talk to Roger and Dana Marlin in Conway Mo. They used to pull the 820's. Really did a good job.

There was a boy down here with a 820. He could never get it to hook up in the 10200 or 11200. He had 18-4-34's on it with a stock moter. If you could put 20-8-38's on one you would have a real bear. I'm not telling you to try it. By all means try it. Its just he never got it to pull good, he finally sold it. If you have the chance but as big a tire on it as your rules will allow.

I like watching those big old "pop-pos" at the pulls, but I saw something interesting at a pull last summer. The 80's, 820's and 830's were pulling when some old boy who looked like a Beverly Hillbilly showed up with an International 600 diesel. It was sure rough looking but after watching it and hearing it run, you could tell that the money that he hadn't put into its appearance had gone to the right mechanical places. He got there late and the JD's were just finishing up so he was last. There hadn't been a full pull yet so all of us JD guys were sitting there ready to laugh. Well let me tell you folks---there are reports that he was just seen down on I-95 near Jacksonville, still pulling that sled. No one said a word-just loaded up, went home and wouldn't even talk about it! A Happy New Year to everyone.

The man you are talking about has had a couple of pulling tractors. His current one is called gangreen(not right). I think that is the one you are talking about. It is a 80 or 820.
