I have water in my hydro fluid so I am trying to drain all the fluid I can, and changing all filters. Can I drain the Hydro resivor and cooler by the raditator without air block troubles or do they drain when I pull the two drain plugs. I have gotten about 8 gallons out of this 1965 400 JD so far and book says it holds 10 gals. For those following my no backing up I got the sucktion filter out that was so plugged with goooo we messed up the filter in the removal process.Goo looks like grease with some small amount of metal glitering in it. Been told that is normal wear. I swear that filter has been in there since 1965 it was so bad. New one should be here tomorrow. So hopefully that will give me forward and revers again since I couldn't possiably been getting enough pressure.

I would not fill and run tractor with kerosene in it. If you was concerned about remaining fluid, could take lines loose and use compressed air to blow some of remaining oil out. I would not fret over the remaining oil. Service the tractor on a regular basis, changing fluids and filters at recommended intervals. Getting tractor up to operating temperature for extended periods of time will help remove moisture by getting hot enough to atomize it. Grit you saw on filter is normal, probably from the internal wet brakes. May need to service screen and filter a little more often to check for this conditon. Sorry for the long post, good luck with your project, Jason.

I would flush it out with keroesene. Then fill it with kerosene, run it for a short while, drain that and refill with Hygard, changing the filter each time.I don't remember about your particular model ,but some Deere tractors have two drain plugs.
You can probably use the spent kero in a space or torpedo heater
