I have a John Deere LA transmission that is all stuck together inside. Nothing is rusted and it appears that there is nothing broken inside, but there is a layer of hard black varnish-like stuff all over inside about 1/8 inch thick. How can I unstick this mess? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Mineral spirits is a good cheap solvent to disolve the gunk. Fill 'er up and let it set for a few days.

hey there that is quite a delema! i had the prob on my 3010. I drained the oil out, filled her up with kerosene. then let it sit for 1 week. then took my 2520 and pulled it forward and backwards. then the shifter moved like new.

That black stuff is the old grease.I used diesel or kerosene and let it soak a week or so.
