Good Morning MSB. I have a few questions for ya. Well, Last fall I finally stopped the leaking at the pto stub shaft on my 4010. I ended up putting a BIT of High Temp sealant in the bolt holes and around the mating surface. However, when I pulled the stub shaft off to do this (as per the JD dealer) There was pressure coming out of the bolt holes?? Hmm, this worries me. Could pressure build up push transmission fluid out in other areas? Also, how much of a job is it to change the load shaft bushings with the latest ones. Is that the only "leakable" area under the rearend? Because now that it"s not leaking at the stub shaft it seams to be leaking around the load shaft bushings. Is there a transmission case vent anywhere where pressure should be relieved? Any info or suggestions would be great. Jon in NY

The transmission oil fill cap is the vent for the transmission and has to be plugged with dirt for pressure to build as you described. Soak cap in cleaning solvent and blow clean with compressed air. It will be all sealed over with dirt at the edges/rim of cap blocking vent. Both leaks may cure themselves if you get the vent working again. DW

Thank you very much! Ya know, I ordered a factory replacement from deere, but it doesn"t look like the originals that I see in pictures. Also, I think you are absolutely correct...there is no vent hole in the darn thing. Thanks for your response! Jon in NY

For some reason we use to have trouble with just some tractors the cap would plug up on and not vent good enough and added another small plastic or brass vent with dust cap on it like used on other transmissions or gear boxes into the filler pipe. It seemed we had less leaks on those tractors then. Even ran some of those vents into the cab with piece of hose and that worked well too. See many putting a tight pipe cap on those but it was suppose to be a vented cap and the rubber gasket has a hole in it too. They were always in area that collected lots of dirt.
