Best tractor for under $12,000?

I'm in the market for a John Deere with a frontloader for under $12,000. I have a 2010 in very good shape without a frontloader and looking at moving up to a newer tractor with better hydraulics. I think I can spend up to $12,000. I also feel I should be able to get a tractor that was built in the 70s or 80s. Any thoughts? Thanks for any help.

for that kind of money, I'd recommend a late model, compact utility. I've had all kinds of antique tractors, however they will not stack up with the hydraulics of the new one....I have a new JD 4400 and it pump 2950 P.S.I. I've seen some on ebay.com and other adds about 4-5 years old.

How do you search for a used 4400 compact tractor on e-bay? Can't find any tractors other than toys.

on the ebay home page click on 'Search' at the top and middle of the page (this gives you more options to refine your search). type the word 'tractor' in the Search Title box and then check the little box below it (this says "search title *and* description"). Then fill in the boxes for price range... since the late model compact tractors generally don't start below $3000, that would probably be a safe starting number and then use $12k as the high end of the range... this will filter out all of the toys and lower end tractors. I use this search all the time to watch what's out there and how much it's going for.

If you wanted to refine your search even more, you could put additional words in the Search Title box besides 'tractor'... like 'deere' or 'compact' or '4400'... just keep in mind that if the seller doesn't use those exact words in the title or description then it won't show up in your search results (some folks use 'JD' and never write the word 'deere' for instance... and most times they don't use 'compact' in the description for compact tractors).

Once you have the search the way you want it, run it and at the bottom of the first results page you'll see a link to "Save this search...". This will save the search to your MyEbay page so that you don't have to type it in every time. You can even specify that you want to get an email message whenever something matching your search criteria gets listed for auction. Hope this helps. Good luck.
