I have a 1980 model 2640 John deere with rops . I was wondering if a sound guard cab off a 2550, 2350, etc; would interchange and be fitted on the 2640 ? After having by-pass surgery ..I really do need air conditioning. thanks guys

The gearshift handles will limit what type of cab you install because the tractors you refer to with SGB have gearshifts on RH side console similiar to rowcrop models. If you can get around that you would have to fabricate floorboard pieces. I'd try the aftermarket cabs as they work OK and come with right parts. Tx Jim

Might be easier to find an aftermarket cab designed to fit- like Year-Around, Cozy Cab, Hiniker. Neighbor had one of those on his 2940. A/C available with them. YA and Hiniker made in Mankato, MN, Cozy Cab is in Litchfield, MN. Might find Cozy under 'Reinke Mfg.' All are ROPS certifed, roomy, well insulated with one inch foam.

To price AC parts online check out AP Air in Iowa. You can also check out the JD parts catalogs online and compare too. http://jdparts.deere.com Once there scroll down and click on parts catalog and enter the model. For dealers and salvage listings adeptr.com (parts then state).

Yes, this conversion is possible, and probably not as expensive as you might think. I don't know where you are located or what your transport abilities are for your machine, but here is the name and phone number of a shop that does several of these kind of retrofits per year. "Murtha Repair Co."located in Parkston,SD. phone# 1-800-888-4230. give them a try,at least for some cost estimates. they have done some excellent work putting late model cabs on 4320 and 4620 tractors. Good luck! -Darin

Thanks Darin. I'll call them just to see the conversion price. SD is a long way from Tenn. I will have to try to find a local guy to do the swap. At least I'll know that it is possible.

It could probably be done, but the amount of time and work involved might make it more economically feasible to simply trade your tractor for one that meets your needs. Decent used SGBs generally aren't cheap, and of course you're going to have to add the rest of the A/C system - compressor, lines, condensor, etc. If you have to pay someone else to do all the work and buy all the necessary parts, I can see this costing most of $10,000 pretty easily.

The ole 2640 was the last tractor my Dad bought new before he passed away. Thats another reason I'm fixing it up..I just had the engine rebuilt and 4 new tires installed on it.I thought with a cab w/ air I woul;d kept the ole girl in service for a while.
