I am trying to figure out if there really is a big difference between an aftermarket vs original manifold other than the part number on the casting. I have rad that they sound different, flanges aren't positioned the right way, it isn't politically correct if part number isn't on it, etc. Mine has a broken ear and the whole machine is apart at the moment and I would like to figure out which way to go to get the manifold in shape before assembly. There is a used one on the auction beyond $200. A new one is much less. Why are people paying double the price of a new one for a used one?

A used manifold may need to be resurfaced after you get it or cracked too. If you can weld you can probably fix the broken ear yourself. Make a thick plate steel template to help hold the ear in place while you weld it with some cast rod. A grinder can take the markings right off a new aftermarket manifold also.

Some are very particular about what kind of parts they're going to use on their tractor, and that's fine. I personally have never had a problem with the way any aftermarket manifold fit or performed, and I have installed quite a few. As for what is being payed for the good used ones, remember JD isn't making them any more, and there are only so many good ones left. Some of the aftermarket parts are being produced in foreign countrys like China. Even our beloved 2-cylinders are now contributing to our trade deficit.

Get an aftermarket if you want function and price. They work fine they just look different. Buy from a reputable supplier that will take it back if for some reason yours doesn't fit right.

OR weld or braze that ear back on and reuse what you have ? unless it's rotted out ?
