I was always under the impression that later models were available with the 619?

Nope, READ the part books! Also the John Deere books and not the wanna be wrote history books. The 619 came out first in the 8630 in 1975 while the 8430 used a 466. The 619 became more popular later in other uses also like self propelled forage choppers plus being used later in many 4x4 JDs so JD offered a better price on the replacement 619 engines and engine overhaul kits and the aftermarket jobbers offered better prices on 619 kits also. JD never offered a true engine kit with a good price on it for the 531 later on and all parts having to be bought seperate made it cost less to install a 619 so many got converted later even in dealership shops. You can still today buy a good used or rebuilt 619 for less than overhauling a worn out 531 engine.

Thanks for clearing that up, I knew for sure that I'd seen 619s in 6030s, just assumed that was a later option.

According to "John Deere Tractors 1918-1994" both 7520 & 6030 shared a new improved, turbocharged, intercooled "Turbo-Built" 531 cubic inch engine. Only the 7520 had the high low trans option also. 7520 made 1972-1975 and 6030 1972-1977.
