In cleaning the fuel shut off valve used on the 48 A, I am wondering , Being the manuel type that requires a 1/4 turn to close, The barrel portion of the valve seems to be a straight cylinder and isn't that apt to leak even when shut off? Is there a special lubricant that might seal and lubricate the valve? The valve looks to be in pretty good shape for as old as it probably is but I am not sure I trust it. Having a heated shop when I am working there anyway I am concerned that I do not feel I want to leave heat on with any chance of a fuel leak as I am in and out during the day-- Coments and thoughts welcome. Mr,B

my suggestion is to treat your tractor to a new valve. They're less than $20.00 and will save a lot of problems....

Mr B if you have the two way valve which has a rod that runs from the valve to the dash of the thA this valve will run you 48.00 I just bought one two weeks ago for my wifes 44 AO JD. You can replace the packing or replace the whole valve. But if you replace the fuel strainner you will need to by a close nipple so the valve will attach to the strainner.

Spokerd1-- This is just a single fuel set up and is a sediment bulb with a screen in the top, I did not replace the packing but I did add some new packing material behind the jam nut. It seems tight enough but I have one on my 35B just like it and it leaks some but since that one has the dual fuel valve I can shut that one off and it does hold because of the tapered barrel. I have not seen one of those sediment bulb set up for some time under $20 or more. I have bought them from NAPA- Maybe they are way out of line-- I have not checked the JD dealer. I am a believer in FUEL shut off's-- Hate flooded engines and FIRE hazzards. I have seen the 35 start leaking after sitting for weeks before I was using the shut off, Fortunatly it was being stored in an area that did not have an ignition source. Mr B

The sediment bowl I just bought was as you might say, I believe was 19.00 at a Deere Dealer but it was not the 1/4 turn, which I wanted. So you could say 20.00 for the sediment bowl. I thought you had the taper valve like some of the all fuel tractors have.
