Just obtained a 51 MT for restroation. Ordered all the manuels etc. The tractor is mostly complete except for the Radiater cowling and no fenders. Will other cowlings and fenders from other models of John Deeres work on an MT?

Ken,
tstex2 is right, the model "M" and "MT" do use different fenders. The "M" fenders have the foot rest attached to them, where the "MT" does not. The part number for the "MT" is AM 868 T (sub. for AM 965 T) and is the same for the right and left fenders. Do you mean a cowling like on a car radiator around the fan? If that's what you are talking about it does not use one. If it is the grille you are talking about, it is like tstex2 said. All the "M" series tractors use a different grille. The one for the "MT" has the hole in the center for an implement attaching bolt to fit through. The 40 grille is used alot on the "MT" but the grille openings are vertical and have a pleated look to them. The "MT" (part # AM 1880 T) has grille openings that are horizontal. The grilles on the "M", "MI" are the same. The grille on the "MC" has a different part number, but I can't tell you what the difference is. ref: PC-848; pgs. 90-1,90-2,90-4

Ken,

The fenders for the M Series are different for each version: M, MT and Crawler. I do not have my parts book with me, but i know that the fenders do have different part numbers.

Regarding "the cowling", which is a pretty generic term for an engine or fuselage covering, you will need to be more specific. Are you referring to the radiator shutters? If you are refering to the grille, the MT is different from the M. That part too is unique to the MT, as the M. The parts that do share a commonality between the M, MT, Crawler and 40 series is the entire engine.

If anyone has their parts book to verify or counter my statements, please do so.
