I have a 48 D with a Wico XH 477 mag on it. The impulse coupling and the case are broken. Will the case and coupling off of a Wico XH 2523E work as replacement parts. Thanks in advance for the help.

He is right. The 1 cyld. mag won't work. You need a X6500 housing. They are available new and the impulse is available as assembly or seperate parts. Email me for more info.

KS,
I doubt the case from an XH2523E, which is for a 1 cylinder Wisconsin, will replace that for a XH477. The Wisconsin engine uses both a different magnetic rotor and case, and in general the pole faces inside the case are designed to work with a particular magnetic rotor. The problem arises in that as the magnetic edge of the rotor from your XH477 leaves a pole face (at a given edge gap) of the XH2523, the points must just be opening, and that is where the (at least one) problem will most likely lie.

However, a case from an XH1042 will work fine, and they are the standard Wico XH magneto used on Waterloo series tractors so they are not hard to find. The only difference between the 477 and 1042 is the impulse coupling (477 is the long-lug designation and 1042 is the short lug designation).

The coupling from the XH2523 will not work, as you need a long lug coupling. They are still available - post back if you can't find one.
