Hello, Seasons Greetings! I own a JD3020 standard tractor that Im hoping to find a ROPS system for someday. In the mean time I would like to construct some sort of a canopy to shade me from the sun. I thought I would use UNISTRUT for the frame of this thing as it is fairly stout material. I know it would add nothing in the way of protection in case of a rollover but Im wondering if by adding this canopy if there may be other safety concerns to consider? Thanks and have a good one eh?

John Deere part # AR51416 shows 4 still in JD warehouses. Cost is $625.00. You should be able to get one from your local dealer. I ordered one for one of my customers 2 weeks ago and got it. Hope this helps. BTW, this is a kit that includes hardware. Tom

I'd have to agree on the JD ROPS. I just got one for a 1020 and it's the fold down type which I really like.

Pre sound guard cabs and your unistrut roof support have one thing in common. They prepackage you for burial when you roll the tractor over.

Deere's ROPS is the best priced one in the agriculture industry. It does limit how far you can move the rear wheels in. I have one on my 4020.

A canopy that makes good shade late afternoon will prevent you from standing up for better visibility. And if the edge isn't rounded you will be banging your head on it as you climb aboard.

Thanks fella's for your input.I agree that a factory rops is the safe way to go. Im going to look around for one for sure. Untill then a broader rimmed straw hat will have to do I guess. Thanks again and have a good one eh?

I had one grumble with the Deere ROPS. They didn't protect the threads in the mounting plate from welding flash and I had to run a tap through the threads (3/4-16) before I could get the bolts through. I found this after I had it hung in place, so I had to lay it back on the floor to clean up those holes.

For shade I wear a full brim hard hat. It doesn't blow away in the wind and with the separation of the suspension cooling breezes blow through. For hearing proteection I have ear muffs with a frame that runs behind my head and so allows hard had and ear muffs at the same time.

Lots of places sell aftermarket roofs to find the factory ROPS.
