4055 vs. 6030???

I have the oportunity to buy a 4055, 2wd, four post rops, 10 hours on major by a john deere dealer, new clutch, looks good, known good maintainance history, turboed 466 engine, less than 7000 hrs. Around $25,000. Will pull farm stock.
What is your input? Buy this tractor or should I wait and eventually buy/build the 6030 I"ve always thought about? We don"t have many 6030"s here in central WI. What kind of $ is a 6030 going to cost me these days, running or otherwise. Will I gain much with a 619 to justify the added trouble, cost, and fewer pulls that I will be able to pull in due to non-stock?

Just wondering

P.S. How do I justify either tractor to my significant other?? Back Blade to plow snow? Roto-tiller, finishing mower? W/O a cab it won"t even be a good dog house!

The 4055 also has a factory needle bearing rear diff and if you are seriuos about pulling you will want this.

No way to justify pulling other than throwing a BUNCH of money in a pit !

The 4055 is easily the handier tractor of the two, and it also should be far lighter and much easier to make lower weight classes with, especially being an open-station tractor. What you're referring to as a 466 engine is actually a 6076 - still 466 cubes like the 6466 engines used through the 50-series tractors, but with a bunch of improvements and upgrades, particularly over the early 466s. May seem like splitting hairs, but I'm doing so with good reason. The 6076s are one of the best engines Deere ever built - easily the best of the 400-series engines. Better cylinder head by a long shot, etc. Small-frame 55s are really catching on in my neck of the woods at farm pulls. Several years ago there were only one or two pulling frequently. This year at my hometown pull there were 6 or 7 4055s, 4255s and 4455s.

4055 is a sweet size machine, still quite popular on the farms of today. That 466 turbo is an easy engine to get the HP out of. If it can be bought right it will hold its value well. A 6030 is a much bigger and bulkier machine and a lot less desireable on most farms. The 4055 would be the way to go just for ease of hauling, not much over 10 000 lbs, that 6030 is a lot heavier.
