Why are 330's priced so high?

Seems to me that there are less of other tractors, exp. 40 hicrop, 420 hicrop, 320u, etc. but for some reason the 330's bring the huge dollar amount and these others are only moderately priced. Why is this? Is it purely demand at this point in time? Seems the price will never drop because if someone spends $15,000 there is no way they will ever take less than that for it. Any explanation? Very fascinating and interesting why some tractors get way more response in the market than others.

Also remember it is a JD, they bring a little extra for those intials. Many people are moving out of the citys for the slow life and living on 2 to 5 acreas and feel the need for the small tractors ( which are very usefull ).

I think it's all collectors as you can buy a new JD compact with loader and all the trimmings for alot less then a worn out 330 2cyl.

Sure hope the price stays up on them. I bought a fairly good one about three weeks ago for less than $4000. Will have to replace some seals in hydralics, PTO, do a little sheetmetal work and repaint, but not in bad condition for it's age and it was a working tractor. It does have original toplink also. Guy I bought it from was trying to pull a 5 ft. bush hog with it--just too much mower for that tractor. Will start on it when summer gets here and I finish my 420 bulldozer.

Back in the 80's when collecting really started to take off I thought why would any one spend near $10,000 on a 330 ? Well now they are $20-25,000 and the 320 is at $10-15,000. Wish I'd had money to buy some as that would of been a GREAT investment. Have they peaked out ? Time will tell.

Josh,

Yes, I too am often puzzled by this phenomenom. IMHO it boils down to a combination of "demand" and "herd" mentality.

Yeah, a person would have been making a good investment to buy up three or four new 330's in 1960 and sell them today. $25,000 is not unheard of for a nice 330 these days. However, when refering to the "price" on an antique tractor, the selling price is always set by the buyer. The seller can ask any amount for a tractor but it is up to the buyer to take it or leave it. I guess my thought to your question is that there are enough people with deep pockets that really want a 330. When one comes up for sale, they are willing to spend big bucks to get it.
