Just brought home another prize, but a green one this time. It's a 3010 with a number 14T44138. Could the 44138 be the serial number? If so what is the 14T stand for? We got it from a walnut rancher while he was cleaning up, but it has some crank bearing problems, so they say. It is a 4-cylinder diesel. Does anyone think it is worth fixing up?

Thanks,

Joe

The row crrop utility is one of the more desireable "collector" versions of that tractor. They built 1108 row crop utilities in diesel, just 32 in LP and 654 in gasoline. Only Orchard (18T) and industrial (15T) are harder to find. Of course there were also the two export only models, the Special Row Crop Utility (16T) and the LANZ SPECIAL STANDARD (17T) but for those, you have to scour Europe or go to places like South Africa.

There was a man who exhibited one at the Two Cylinder Expo a few years back, that had fully restored his, then lost it to a fire and then, rebuilt and restored it again!

I would say that it is well worth the "fixing up"!

Hi J Cook, I bought a JD 2020 Grove tractor on a trade in and am trying to figure out what exactly I have. It appears to be complete with all the body armor and runs but needs engine rebuild. Id plate reads: type 5G3c or T5G3C and serial 103086 or 1030861. Do you have any info on how many built? I am contemplating restoring or just selling. I have some pics if you care. Any help appreciated. Thnaks,Bill

Hello J Cook,

This year, I have bought a JD 3010 16T. It's a very basic tractor, without any comfort. No syncho trans, steel seat and small fenders. This tractor came from S-Africa. Do you have any information for me?

Hi j,
The number on the ID plate on my 3010 is 1T27097. `What year and model would that be?

1T, by itself is not a possibility, has to have been a second number, what other features does it have? Soecificlly what kind of fenders and what kind of front end does it have? The STANDARD tractor (12T) would have large flared fenders and a wfe set in the "short" position, as well as 30 inch rear rubber. The ROWCROP (11T) would have the "Deluxe Flat Top" fenders, probab;y 38" rear rubber and might have a narrow front end.

If yours is in fact a Row Crop Utility (14T) it will be shorter in stature, with a seating position that has your legs straddle the transmission.

Thanks, j. I checked the plate again, and the second number took a ding at one time or another, but it could be a 1 or a 4. From your description, mine fits the 11T details. How many 11T LPs were made in 1962?

Anything above 19801 will be a 1963 acording to the information in serial numbers. Look to the left and select serial numbers then the tractor type, model number, and it lists the year/serial numbers. I wasn't sure about the 1T and etc.

Thanks, Last night I ordered the shop manual and we're going to get started. All in all it looks pretty good with a small wrinkel n the hood. It is missing one of the side plates that has the model number on it, but we have the previous owner who is a brother in-law of a friend looking around the ranch to see if it can be found. It looks kinda bald with the exaust pipe going down and air intake hidden some where.

yep 44138 is the serial number. The 1 means it is a 3010, the 4 means row crop utility. So it would seem you have a 1963 row crop utility 3010. Is it gas, diesel or lp? bill

Thanks, It is a diesel. They pulled the pan and one rod cap or main bearing cap but thats all I know about it today. Later I'll take a closer look to see what they were trying to look at. The owner has a bunch of California farm labor doing his mechanical work so no telling what they were thinking.

I think those have an engine balancer assy. in there I'd check it over good and make sure it was tight.
