Where in JD parts catalogs or JD original sales literature for those tractors have you ever seen a vegetable special mentioned??? Yes, high crop models and options like 42" rear rims were available for more clearance for tall bushy crops like cane, flowers, and some vegetables.

The reason you don't find them mentioned in your literature is because they don't exist, Deere never called any tractor a "vegetable special." The only place these tractors exist is in the minds of those who've read too many books about JD tractors that have been written by people who don't have a clue as to what they are really writing about.

One has to assume you're talking about a Model "60" Tractor equipped with 42-inch rear tires and either a single front wheel or wide adjustable front end. For the first couple of years of production, yes, what Deere called the "60"N and "60"W tractors were kept track of, but beginning in 1954, those records stopped being kept. So, the actual total number of Model "60" tractors actually built with this wheel equipment is not only unknown but unknowable from existing sources of information. Anyone who tells you he knows the number of such tractors built will lie to you about other things.

You have a point, sort of. While the "40"V was primarily intended for the cultivation of wide-row crops that required more vertical clearance, some of which could be considered vegetable crops, it wasn't a "vegetable" tractor. Though it was indeed given the "V" designation, you won't find any piece of literature that calls the tractor a "vegetable special."

So, let me amend the previous post. There was never a Waterloo-built tractor that was called a "vegetable special."
