working on a 1951 b s.n. 266131 i have no spark going to the plug wires. i walked around the tractor and noticed a wico X mag on it. i was kinda surprised to see that. i thought it should have a distributor on it? my question is what belongs on it? i want to restore it back to factory specs. also i see alot of cut wires and bare wires i plan on putting a new wiring harness on it. is there any books or web sites out there that will walk me through it? or will the parts book show me what to do? thanks in advance

For what it's worth , the mag was still offered as an option after the dist. was used.

Check and clean points first seeing if you get some fire or may need to replace those and condenser. Wiring diagrams for most lettered and numbered series JD 2 cyld. tractors and equipment in the SM2029 as Duane said. It doesn't have diagrams for the H or L/LA though. JD publications 800-522-7448. Parts book will only have a pic of harness. Jim's Agri Services harnesses at wiringharnesses.com For JD manuals you might also try Jim Tucker 812-537-4622. If you need a Wico XH manual shoot me a email it's open.

John,
Your B came with a Wico XH1042 magneto - the Wico XB4001 distributor (which looks a lot like the 1042) was used starting at 268820.

You might check on this site for wiring harnesses, or with Agri-Services. They will provide instructions on how to hook the wires up. If you choose to do it yourself, the parts book PC330 will be useful - you should consider getting a parts book if you don't have one if you are going to do a correct restoration. Additional info is found in SM2029, the Deere electrical service manual. Both manuals are available from Deere publications - I don't have the number here in the shop but it is posted regularly by Glen in TX - check some of his posts.
