3 point in D but not L/D on a 4020

I changed the oil seals on the load control shaft, and was told by a local JD shop foreman that the machine had to be in L when removing the shaft. With D engaged, there was no way that the shaft would move, but moving the selector to L resulted in easy removal and replacement of the shaft. The 3 point now only works with the selector in D, but not in L/D, although I have no idea if it worked in L/D before the selas were replaced. Am I missing something? The 3 point also settles slowly over time. Where should I start to look for the source of the problem.
Thanks, Alan

There is a procedure to adjust the linkage after you replace the shaft, it's in the repair manual. Or ask the same guy to adjust it for you or get a copy from him. I lucked out a couple times not having to adjust it. chris
