I have heard both good and bad reports on the 2010 John Deere tractor. What are it's strong and weak points? I am in the process of purchasing one with the diesel engine. I am looking for items to check on final inspection. Also what would the going price for one in good condition in Ky/In area?

Yes, good and bad ones. Still have a 2010 gasser row crop that we had a 227 mounted corn picker on 25 years ago. Pulled the picker and wagons through the hills and we have never had any covers off for any repairs. Kind of a fun tractor to drive I thought.

Be forewarned that there some good ones and many bad ones. Repairs to the engine, especially a diesel can be very expensive. This in a few words is not John Deere's best effort and there are many much better tractors out there. If you like to gamble, go for it, you might get lucky, but if you don't like taking chances, go for a later 1020 or 2020 as was stated. Even though the numbers are similar, the machines are all new.

from advise of others and John Deere mechanic, the main pump is inside the drive housing and caused a lot of problem as did the weak engine on tractors. I have taken their advise and ran from them. Have a 1020 diesel and a 2040 diesel(1980) Manhiem. Great/Fabulous/Wonderful ie.

the 2010 is realy not that bad of tractor we had a new one it had cloes to 5000 hr on it when sold still running today. i have a industeral one here now. granted the hy system not the best but depending on what you plan on doing with it i should do a good job. if it in good shape and all works good 3500.00 is probley top for one. it should start with glow plugs theis tractor dont like starting fluid.

The early ones were little better than junk. They made some changes in the later ones, and they were pretty good tractors. I think the serial number at the change was about 40,000. The ones I have seen afterthat were good. I think the change was about late 1964.

Unless starting a 10 series collection I'd skip over it and buy something newer and better like a 1020,2020 ,1530 or even newer yet.
