I want to put heavier wheels from a 4020 on my 4000. I know the 4020 has a larger diameter axle. Can I simply put my wedges into the new wheel??? I've always had the impression the rack and pinion wedges are interchangable to make any wheel fix any axle but I don't know if that is true.

I was wondering if you had any problems getting the wedges loose. I have tried everything I have been told to do and still haven't gotten my loose on a 4430. If you had problems, how did you get them loose?

You still haven't gotten those wedges loose ????

I don't consider a 4430 as being a very old tractor, but thet are getting some age on them to rust up I guess ?

One more thing. Do your wedge pushing bolts turn real free in their threads ??? I've had some that are tight and you loose alot of force if the bolts are tight. I back them all the way out and clean the threads on the bolts and in the holes with a tap and lube them with neverseez and this helps put full force on the wedges. They have a keeper on the backside of the bolt, but on the older tractors when you back them out the keeper just smashes out of the way. I'm not sure if the newer style of keepers on that new of a tractor will do the same ? it is possible it could damage the threads ? Usually with good moving pusher bolts drawed up tight ,tractor jacked up,a couple of good whacks on the axle end gets them moving.

I got one push bolt to move a little. But it finally twisted off. The bolt had rusted to half of its orginal diameter. I think the tractor had seen alot of manure in its time. The duals probably had never been removed and the inner wheels had never been moved out. I tried lots of heat and all the other suggestions from you guys. Still never moved the wedge. I am considering a jack hammer on the wedge or taking it to someone with bigger tools.

You may end up needing another center casting.

Soak everything good with PB blaster and go work it with the bolts left loose, maybe after awhile it will free up. It shouldn't fall off if you have the pinion still frozen up and the snap ring on the axle end.

Should be no problem. If I remember right the 4000 edges are the same as used on a 4010.

I am not sure about the 4000 wheel, but not only are the axle sizes different from a 4010 to a 4020 but the tapers are a different angle as well. Odds are the 4000 and 4020 share the same taper angle with only the axle size being different. Mike
