435 PS worm gear thrust bearing source ?

I'm posting this second hand so here goes. In a 435 with the hydraulic power split between the power steering and the 3-point system, there is a worm gear/shaft in the steering box assembly that has a ball-bearing thrust washer setup at each end of the worm gear. Sound familiar so far? OK, the outer ends (or bearing races I guess they would be called) need replacing but apparently they are no longer available from John Deere. Is there ANY replacement part available from ANY application that some of you JD guys might know of that can be used? Or any suggestion as to a substitution type fix that maybe somebody has come up with. I think the worm gear is useable but these balls and races definitely need replacing. Thanks in advance.

All power steering components are the same except the power steering pump itself and lines to and from the pump. The Detroit uses a combination power steering hydraulic pump with power steering and the manual steering pump is also belt driven that feeds the hydraulics only. On the power steering models the 430 late serial is the same as the 435 which includes the rack and pinion assembly, power steering control valve assembly, and the power steering gear and support (the M2573T Worm and the AM3976T lever shaft assembly) On the worn itself there are two bearings M932T Cup and R26552R ball bearing 22 used. These bearings are adjusted by shims under AM3669T cover. The pumps and lines are different between the two models. The parts books gives good detail on similar and disimilar parts. Hope this helps or partially answers your question. Ellis

Joe

Getting all the information second hand could lead to a misunderstanding. I just thummed in the 420/430 book a little and found the race to be the same for the different models. The 435 is spose to be the same in the front steering column respect.

The number that you want is probably M 932 T. But I donno for sure.

Never tell the salvage yard staff you are lookig for 435 parts if the part is identical to what is also used on a 40,420,430,440,320,330. The P.S. parts in the proper serial number range of the gassers and industrial should be mostly identical.

So you're telling me that the PS parts for those other models that you listed are in fact the same part? And also, what serial number range are you referring to? Thanks ..... JPJ

You have to have the parts books for the 435 and the potential donor tractor. Depends on the individual part. No reason to make an alltogether different power steering system for the 435 than what's used on a 420/430. If the new parts can be ordered, use them. Do you want something with 46 years of wear on them if new can be had?

If you read my original post carefully you would have noticed that I said that the parts are no longer available from John Deere. I'm not trying to save $15 here, just find out perhaps if there is some other source or substitute part available that somebody else might have come across. Where better to ask than a JD tractor forum? Somewhere in the world there is some application that used essentially the same one-directional, grooved face thrust bearing race, it's finding it that's the tough part.

Try John Shepard at 715 265 4988 or Dave Cook at 715 373 2092. They should have the used parts you are looking for. Ellis
