Any tips (parts suppliers, books, videos, tools, etc) for overhauling a 420?

Thanks,
Jamie

I wouldn't start an overhaul without having the right manuels and a parts book. IT manuel will work if you are a mechanic, otherwise regular JD books. I would also check the tractor first, ie compression test. Why do you think it needs an overhaul? Burning oil? At startup or all the time? May determine how far you go into it. What will you do with the tractor? If it runs good and has power but burns a little oil, and it is a user, you can buy a lot of oil for the cost of an overhaul. No matter where you buy parts they will be expensive. If the cyliners are worn you are looking at pistons and bore. If crank is worn you may have to have it ground. You could put a couple thousand into it real quick.

If you diesire, give me an email and I will tell where I dropped those bucks with the double zero's behind the 1 at. The site won't post on this board.

Also, have you already decided what kind of overhaul you are gonna do or have you yet to crack it open to desice on what is needed?
