I have a 1934 John Deere GP. I have heard that if you add 1 gallon of diesel to very 5 gallons of gas to these older John Deeres it will increase the horse power of the tractor. If any one know if this works and what the diesel dose to increase the horse power I would like to hear from you. Thank you 55 Deere 70

you"re going to be sadly dissapointed if you are not able to keep the operating temperature at a high level. Remember the shutters the old tractors had. To run distalate efficently you needed to be above 180 degrees. Thumping around in one of these tractors at low temps you will find fouling plugs and diluted engine oil. If anything I"d put some boost in fuel for low temp operation.

I am sorry I read your statement wrong. I was talking of increasing the power of a distillate by adding gasoline you posted just the opposite.I donot think adding diesel to gas would help any.

Back in the late 50's I drove a tank truck for Standard Oil Co. agent in SO Il. We sold a product called Power fuel. It worked good in the old distillate tractors giving more power. They could start the tractors directly off the fuel in the summer time. Though the company would not reveal the formula, it was rumored that it was 50% kerosene and 50% gasoline. At that time reg.gas was over 90 octane. This has been done in the past!

I see two contradicting statements here. As to the second post, any old tractor designed for kerosene will make more power if you add 50% gasoline and will start on it like you said of the "power fuel". As to the first post, the "34 is a distilate tractor. It will have more power on gas. Adding 1 gal diesel won't increase power IF everything in the mechanicals of the tractor are up to snuff. B U T!!! If it had sticking valves or loose piston clearance, then a little "oil" in the fuel may free the valves a little and seal the rings up a little, all of which will give more compression and thus a little more power than it had W I T H these problems. Things that may come to mind are Restore , Marvel Mystery Oil, Fuel conditioners etc. All bandaids for an ailing engine.
