Brian, the generator should be black, but the cast iron pulley should be green. It is my understanding that the generators on the Waterloo tractors were black until a change in assembly line procedures in 1958 when they were then painted green. Hope this helps. Mike

I have seen a picture of the Waterloo assembly line where they were painting a "50" [before 1958!]. The generator, carburetor, and muffler were on the tractor and painted green. The tractor was pulled thru the line on skeleton steel wheels that were plastered with overspray. Don't get me wrong, I think they look better black. But I've seen otherwise.

This is a post I copied from monthes gone by, so you may want to consider the source of the Generator. Or search for more about this date.

In Reply to: Model 50 Generator Color posted by Jason on April 29, 1999 at 16:05:57: Rodney is correct, however a few generators where delivered from deere green.
These few where contracted from a different supplier (not DelcoRamey) and were primed when arriving at Deere.
Deere then painted them Green (instead of Yellow) since this was the paint color they had at their final assembly plants.
The majority were all satin finish Black, painted before arriving at Deere, thus Deere never had to paint them at all.
So... even if you tractor came with a Green gen. I'd sure paint it Black as that was the "intended" collor from Deere.

I saw a picture once that was taken at Waterloo on the paint line and everything got a coat of green paint (except the wheels of course). This was done after the tractors were run and dynoed.
Ken.

The correct police will get you if you paint it the wrong color! The generators were painted GREEN from the factory. They look better painted BLACK. What YOU think is best is what IS best, it's your tractor. Enjoy!
