Joe

I have found that mine was not exactly parallel with the crank, but close.

If you want to get picky like I did you can (the no one must be on tdc on the firing stroke) drop the dist in and do the static timing like the book says and see exactly where the distributor will wind up when the ignition is final timed.

That word timing can be a little misleading since what is really being set is the rotational position of the dist so the wires line up right for the coil and hot to the dist.

So if you want to change the final position a tooth one way or the other to your liking, you can put a big screwdriver blade in the oil pump slot and hold the bottom of the pump up with the other hand and while lowering the pump put a little pressure on the direction you want to jump a tooth with the screwdriver just as the teeth disengage you can gently move it one tooth and reinsert it and see how you like the position then.

you got to be having fun!
