we have a small vegetable farm in Maine,we bought a 420,seemed to be in good "farm" shape, looked like a row crop to us and has a full set of cultivators.
after we got it home i looked at the serial number it is 420-I 126967 acording to the information i found it is a 1958 special industrial, only 89 were made. we aren't collecters, we have 3 other antique tractors ,that work. my question is what do i do now,if it is that rare, where can i find price information? I don't think it should be used as an every-day tractor, should probably be in a collection. How do I find a buyer? Got any suggestions?

John,

The 420 I (or Special Utility) was based on the 420 Row-Crop Utility (W), but with a heavier duty front axle. It probably came with 34" or 28" rear tires as did the 420W. I would agree with you that your tractor is probably too valuable to be used as a worker. I would do some extensive research on value before putting the tractor on the market. A Photo Ad here on YT or ads in Two-Cylinder or Green Magazine will put you in touch with a collector who might be interested in your tractor at a price fair to you both.

John, I have a 58 420-U with 5spd and slant steer and came yellow from factory. The tractor is shorter with wide front and easily distinguishable from the row crop version. The wheels on the U&I models I think are 24 inch as opposed to the 34"s on row crops. Doubt anyone would mount cultivators to an industrial...is tractor yellow or possibly someone robbed housing or parts off an industrial??? As for price, my 420 is rough and unrestored and more common...paid $1250 also have an 830 industrial which is also rare...those sellfor 8-14K If yours is a true and correct industrial in running condition unrestored am guessing $2500-$3500 maybe a pinch higher if you get the right collector.
