I have a tractor with a standard 6 volt generator on it. Can this 6 volt generator be successfully converted to 12 volt by using a 12 volt voltage regulator? If possible I would like to do this to help preserve the original appearance of the tractor. Any help on this matter would be appreciated.

AWB, I have used 6 to charge 12 simply by changing the regulator to 12 volt n they worked but they arent super high amp charges mind you. A genny puts out more if it turns faster and/or you pump more field amps through it. The other option is to have new fields installed in the existing core so all would look exactly the same.

Did that on a restoration on a '49 JD B. Replaced the 6v regulator with a 12v. Cosmetically it is impossible to tell. However, the output is pretty weak, and from time to time, I have to hook the charger up to the battery to bring it up to peak charge.
