The Wico B-4027 is a 6V only battery distributor and the only coils still available for it are to be run on 6V only or you'll fry them. Step down voltage resistors might work but would need one or two or more mounted in series or parallel to step it down. Bad thing is when they go out from a volatage spike you won't know till your coils are fried and ignition for pony will be dead so not a dependable system. B&D's idea of a seperate 12V system is a good one because if you are wanting to run much for accessories you'll likely need a alternator to keep up.

There are 3.0 amp solid state volatge regulators rated at 5.5 volts. They would be barely large enough but would likely work. They should be bolted to a heat sink after giving then a light coating of heating conductive grease. Each coil would require its own regulator. The 6V fuel gauge would not read correctly on 12V. We assume you need 12V negative ground to operate accessories on a baler etc? It would be simpler for the backyard tinker to leave the 6V system untouched. And bolt on an idependent one wire alternator and a 12V battery.

12 volts will cook the coils in short order. Running the pony out of gas and leaving the ignition on will do the same. Voice of experience.

Meant to say you can fry them with 6 volts.
