1020 gas engine serial numbers according to the service manual are in the form

1-----2345----6----- 7 SNM 43TR 010001 T

The fifth number can either be an R,U,H . Number 5 on my engine serial number is four (4)

SNM 41T4 0166xx T

Sonething is not right

The serial number is clear and easy to read and I have checked it closely several times.

Anyone have any information on these serial numbers

(1)SN-serial number
(2)M- Engine
(3)4- 3cylinder
(4)1-gasoline 3-diesel
(5)R-RU model L-LU model H-HU model
(6)sequence serial number(010001)
(7)T-Dubuque

Thanks

That engine may have came from something else using the 135 also. It doesn't match ID numbers in a SM service manual I have that covers the 135 used on some combines and windrowers. Have local service manager look in some of their books and maybe they can find something on it. Could be just a different version or maybe they stamped short block assemblies different also?

1020gas,

Not sure if you are referring to the TRACTOR serial number or the ENGINE serial number, but in either case I believe the information you are using is inaccurate.

If you are looking at the TRACTOR serial #:

The first letter designates tractor..... ..... ... T
The first number designates series..... ..... 4 (a 1020)
The next letter designates style..... ..... ..... R, H, or L
The next number designates fuel type..... 1 (gasoline) 3 (diesel)
The next letter designates trans. type..... ....C, D, H
The next six digits are the serial number
The final letter designates the manufacturer.....T (Dubuque)

Everthing matches with my service manual except fot the number 4 preceeding the 6 digit serial number. It should be an R for RU model not a 4.

I emailed John Deere maybe they have more info.

I'll let you know if they turn up anything interesting
