I have a 1949 John Deere A, I removed the head to inspect interal parts. It has the high compression add on puller pistons. It also appears to have a rebuilt governor.

Anyone think my 49 A with these add ons would pull good?!?!?!?

Thank you all.

Andy, you should do okay. Your problem may come about with the fast first gear on that tractor. I have a 47 A I pull with which is original but I always run out of power. You may wish to look into a few ways to slow down the A closer to a first gear speed of the single stick A transmissions, 50-52. Look into the rules for the clubs at which you want to compete in and see where you stand. Your pistons will help but you will be going up against tractors with over bores, stroked camshafts etc. that will have you 40 - 45 hp A lacking considering these others will be pushing 55- 90 hp with modifications listed that do not show up on the outside. Best of luck and have fun.
