I have a 1949 John Deere A that was last run 4 years ago, but quit using because of a broken frame. The tractor appears to me that it may have been rebuilt at one time because the pistons look brand new and the governor has new looking parts and aftermarket weights on governor and the gaskets look almost new.

I'm thinking it may POSSIBLY have a power block because of the yellow colored paint under the green paint. It there a part number on the block I could go by or something? How does someone tell?

I'd appreciate some help.

Thank you.

admdlmn,
Power blocks were sold by Tractor Supply and have the works POWER BLOCK cast in on the top side of the block next to the transmission case. The size is also cast in, and it would be 6"-2. It is possible some folks have ground off the words, so look underneath - a power block will not have any compression releases as they are a sleeved block.

The few I've seen say MW on top. If you have the head off the cylinders will be way oversize.
