what is the correct procedure for setting the timing gears.do the marks go together when the left cyl. is on top dead center?is the left cyl. considered no.1?

I quote this from memory...To properly time an H, set up a dial indicator on the #1 exhaust valve which has been adjusted to .000 lash( no movement). Then roll the engine until the dial indicator reads .020. At this point, the dot on the flywheel opposite of exhaust#1 open, should be within 1/2" either side of the timing mark in crank/trans case. Start this whole procedure using the marks, they should get you close, but I am sure you will have to adjust the placement of the gears some. I have restored some Deeres that the marks were no where close, so the I&T procedure above works the best for me. Good luck..Doug in Tx

put the two marks-the one on the crank and the one on the gov. shaft together. this should put themag drive in the horizontal position and ready to put the mag on.
