Hey guy's. JD 1020 with the 3 banger diesel. The tractor starts up and slowly dies regardless of throttle movement. We pulled the lines off the injectors and they all squirt what looks to be plenty of fuel upon crankning. The pump as rebuilt in '97 by stanadyne (sp?) with less than 200 hours since then so I don't think it's the pump. I tried to pull and injector to see how it fired but couldn't figure out how it comes out. Looks like it takes a special puller or something. Any light on how to remove a pencil injector on the 1020? What do you guy's think the problem is? Sounds to me like it's losing fuel pressure to where it can't fire the injectors. We're kind of stumped. Thanks alot yall.

I just read another thread regarding a problem with a 1020. The pump housing pressure regulator was mentioned. The tractor starts up and slowly dies no matter what throttle setting. As mentioned in the first post the fuel return seems to flow good and all. Seems like something in the injector pump. The transfer pump has the manual primer lever towards the front of the tractor. What should we try? I thought I remembered the injector pump having a Stanadyne plate on it, is this correct for this tractor? Thanks for the help in advance.

Did you check fitting where return line fastens to inj.pump as the check ball could be plugged up? Tx Jim

I'lk check that today. What about this housing pressure regulator. Does this problem occur on the Stanadyne pump? Thanks loads.

As far as I know it occurs on all inj. pumps. Tx Jim
