I bought a 43 B for restoration, but I am unsure that it has the right front wheels. It is a styled row crop and has spoke fronts and solid rears. I dont believe that year had spokes on the front. Can anyone tell me what was the last year for spokes. Paid 700 for the tractor. Bought a 46 B today for 650, between the two I should have a restored tractor. Any comments would be appreciated

I have a early 1944 model B with the same wheels. I have searched many sites but have found no information on spoked wheels on the war time tractors. The parts manual doesn't even show this type of wheel. After reading your posting I examined the wheels on mine and could find no evidence of any rework on them. If someone cut the spokes and added the rims they did it undetectably. I have never dismounted the tires but am tempted to do so just to check for evidence inside. I am also trying to restore the tractor and would like to know if the wheels are original, even if they are not they still look neat. You asked the same question I wanted to, Thanks

This is a possibility, but dont take it as gospel . Due to ww2 alot of tractors that were formerly on rubber, were once again supplied on steel wheels, due to the rubber shortages of the early 40's. I know this happened for a fact with Alice Chalmers, and I would assume Deere had to put up with the same restrictions as everyone else. Maybe the original owner, cut down the spokes and slapped rubber on it after the war, who knows. It is interesting though. Later Greg H.

My "B" parts book shows that spoked steel wheels were available up to tractor serial number 200999 (approx. 1947). Parts book doesn't show any spoke rubber tire wheels after serial number 60000 (approx. 1939). I hope this helps you out. Any other questions, fell free to E-mail. Ken

Buy a parts catalog from JD. It'll tell you the correct wheels and answer a lot of similar questions. I buy one for each JD I intend to restore. Saves many mistakes and frustrations.

Hi Bob, It is possible that what you have is cut offs.It might have come on front steel and was switched over. You would need to run a history check to know that! Good luck, Don

Can't help much but I have a '42' B that has stamped front wheels.. They have been on the tractor since I first saw it in 1951.

Bob, I can't answer your question, sorry, but maybe you can answer mine. I have a JD "B" 1944. I have broken the PTO shaft. Need info on locating another one. The shaft I need is 1 1/8" from the forward end where it goes up in the gear case all the way back to the gear on the pump, then it changes to 1 3/8" on the surface that the gear runs on out the back to the rear of the shaft. I have a shaft that is 1 1/8" all the way, and I have one that is 1 3/8" all the way. Neither can be made to work. I sure could use any input you would have. I posted a message a while back and got one person that had had the same problem some time back. I also got alot of people that laughed and said that I had an addapter stuck on the rear of my shaft. That is not the case here. thanks.

I'd have to look for sure but I think I have a replacement shaft I'd let go. It is for powerlift and measures 1 1/8" to 1 3/8" on the end you would use. Email me if interested.

I can't help you on your question, as I have never torn in a JD yet. I have on 8-N, Case SC, and Allis Chalmers, but JD is new to me. Restoring from the frame up is this winters project. I bought two parts tractors in hopes of building one. I will have parts left over as I tear into it. Keep my e-mail if you might need parts.
