I have a 630 with the serial number 6315534. The sheet metal and body style look like a 720/30 but according to the serial-number-plate it is definately a 630. My father-in-law says he purchased it new in 1961, but all the info I see on serial numbers never mention 1961. He also says he has had some trouble getting certain parts over the years, cause they sell him the part for an earler version. Any thoughts? Also, I recently saw on the web a place to get some sort of certificate (for a fee of course) giving particulars about a tractor based on serial number. Does anyone remember seeing something like that. I have seen the serial-number books for sale, and the sites on the web with general info regarding serial number ranges. That is not what I am referring to. Thanks in advance.

According to my production register, your 630, code AB(Row crop-Gas) was shipped on 12/10/59 to the Dallas, TX branch, with final destination of Putnam,TX. No other info is given.

The last 630 serial number was about 6318206 that means there were 2672 more built after it. It's fairly late But nothing special, If it was sold in 1961 it was just left over stock.

get some sort of certificate (for a fee of course)"

Hmmmmm mmm. You can get official factory documentation of a 46 year old obsolete machine for the cost of a 24 of beer. I wouldn't be too quick to complain. That is a pile of service for minor fee that cannot be had at any cost for other equipment and machines out there. These tractors have a better pedigree and family history than most people on the Internet.

Sometimes on a serial number research you also get the dealer shipping destination and other times only the branch warehouse destination. For example I have had several done and some show a local dealer shipping destination while others might only say Kansas City branch warehouse which could cover a broad area in several states. You never know what you will really get on a serial number research depending on what was recorded but will get the build date.

That 630 was shipped in the second week of 1959 making it a 1960 model. The serial number will not show the year. You need a chart (like the one to the left under Research & Info.) to find the year. Altho yours was built in 1959 it is a 1960 model, just like cars change to the next year in Aug. or Sept. in most cases. Two- Cylinder can get you the ship date along with other information on the tractor for $20. If they have some of the 30 series PRODUCTION REGISTER books left get it. If you buy the book it will have the information the certificate would have. So you only need to buy one or the other altho the book has every 530, 630, 730 and 830 ever built in it.

Let me back up just a little. The certificate MAY show what options the tractor had. I have not ordered one but some folks have and I remember them asking what a certain code was far. The registure will not show what equipment it had on it.
