Could anyone tell me the weight of a JD M without fluid or weights? I recently bought one to use mostly for antique tractor pulling and was wondering if I could get it down to 2500 lbs.

jd51mt,Thanks for the info. Do you have a 51 MT? I have one my grandfather bought new. My grandmother gave it to me when my grandfather passed away in 1966. I used it and a 41 H that also belonged to my grandfather for farming for many years. Now they are retired to tractor pulling, bushhogging, hauling firewood and other odd jobs. I use a 1020, 2440, and 4020 for farming now.

Yes, I have a 51 "MT" I also have a "M" and "MC". My "MT" came from a farm that used it around an apple orchard. I originally bought it for the rear wheels and axles to replace the ones that were on one that I had. After I got it home and looked at it a little closer I desided to keep it and sell the other one. I have a little hobby garden just so I can use the plow and disk that I brought. I use it to give the kids a wagon ride around my place and other little jobs that come up. My grandpa had an "MT", I have his tool bar with cultivator attachement for it. Wish I had his "MT" it was sold, and the guy use it for a couple of years, then sold it for scrap.

Al Epp

You are one of the first people on the boards that has known the entire origin of your MT. I would be curious to know how hard it was worked from the 1951 purchase of your g-father and what type of issues he had? Most of the tractors we get have anywhere from 10-40+ yrs of guess work.

Did you or your G-father ever bore it and upgrade the pistons? I would also be curious to know how the steering [telescopic] wheel is configured today?

Anyway, i just find it interesting that you, mike and i all have 51mt's and yours could really be used as a barometer to determine what ours might have gone through...I know the history of my MT from about the 62-63 timeframe on and have no idea what happened b4 that...most of the time thereafter it was used by weekend farmers with minimal maintenance in mind.

Thanks,
tstex

Al,
Depending on the size of the tires, it will weigh any where from 2340lbs to 2518lbs.
