I have 140 acres of low ground; muddy bottom gumbo much of the time. Can't even work it some years, and then I like to broadcast seed it, which gets surprisingly good results. Let some flood and lease to duck hunters. Question is has anyone run a Gator in swampy conditions? Only four the six wheels drive, unlike the Polaris Ranger, where all six drive. Will the Gator bog down too much? Can I put a broadcast spreader on it and cover enough ground to seed or spot spray 50+ acres?

I'm interested in the 4x6 and 4x2 gator in cost and how effective the work in rocky areas.

Hey, I have a four wheel gator. No, the gator cant go through the mud or swampy areas good because it is belt driven and the belt becomes wet. Once the gators belt is wet the gator will stop almost completely. Email me back please, matt

Use gators (4x6) and have nice picture of gator sunk deep in mud. Does fine full speed through thick mud, but slow down and you'll sink fast.

I own a TrailGator 6X4. We are using it on a construction site and on old logging roads. We use it lightly loaded and it floats across mud where the backhoe sinks a foot deep. When I walk in the same mud I sink 2-3 inches. On the logging road it does ok but the limited ground clearance is a problem when trying to hop fallen trees in the roads. This clearance may be a problem if it was in sloppy mud it won't float over.

I purchased a new trail gator 6x4 last year. I use this on Mississippi boll weevil eradication program. I have a lot of problems being stuck in the mud. I just sinks down and bottoms out. They claim its floats over mud, I have not found this true. If anybody knows something I am doing wrong please e-mail me.

Look at the Polaris 6x6...

They make a 2 seater called the Ranger
and a single person with a little dump
bed.

The loggers and forest service use 'em
around here. If they won't go there
... you don't belong there anyway.

They will go there allright. For a while. Don't own a ranger but do own a smaller one. Tires still good, but transmission quit. Only cost about a thousand to fix it. It still sits.

I am a Deere person all the way but when we were in Waukee four years ago, It rained on use every day during the swap meet. We took Honda Three wheelers and pulled the Gators out so they could get traction. I had always wanted one until I saw that at Waukee Iowa. Of course it could depend on the type of tires you had on the Gator.

just a comment, not an expert opinion:

I have been looking at one of those for use as a hauler around my property. Kinda expensive, but the impressive statistic is the loading on each tire. I don't remember the exact number, but it was like 5psi, or something like that. These are numbers usually reserved for crawlers.

I would think these would be great machines for mucky ground.

Think about your shoes. About 5in x 10in roughly or 50 sq inches. If one shoe is down at a time and you weigh 250 lbs, that is 5psi. If you can walk on it the Gator can drive on it.

Now if you start weighing it down with equipment, obviously it gets worse.

There was a post about a year ago, on another board, where someone was complaining that their gator was absolutely useless in snow. They wanted to sue JD because the marketing info showed pictures of use in snow, and their dealer had told them it would do good.

I certainly am not an expert on the Gator, but do know that it won't work well in water that reaches the belt drive. It is not sealed. What I have seen of them is pretty good otherwise.
