I need to paint a block, head and cover. I've never done this before. What is the proper procedure? Right now the old paint is almost all off. Is it OK to paint over old paint? Also how do you remover old paint?

Primer? Thank-you very much..

Take a putty knife and scrape off all the grease, dirt and old paint that you can. Use a protective face shield and gloves (Outdoors!) and spray parts liberally with some oven cleaner. Let parts set for about 30-45 minutes. Rinse off parts with the garden hose. Let parts dry completly. Use a piece of steel wool to take off any remaining loose rust. Wipe with clean shop rag. Get several spray cans of Rustoleum rusty metal primer labled for use on heavily rusted metal. Put on two coats. Let dry. Go to John Deere Dealer and get several spray cans of Antique John Deere Classic Green Paint. I use 3 coats, letting it dry between coats. Use thin coats when you spray it on. I have used this method and have gotten excellent paint jobs. Hope this will help you .
