I have a nice running b that i use with my number 5 mower it is a great combo however the b runs real irratic at slow speeds its not hunting carb adjustment varies every time I use it. I have been through this Carb 3 times all the passages are open. The other day after I started it , it is a hand start, it just ran super, I mowed a few round and noticed a puff of black smoke, so I looked down and realized my choke was still half on, so I climbed down and opened the choke and their was that crappie running all over again, when that happened I thought aha a vaccum leak, when I got back to the shop I sprayed around the carb and intake to find the leak no leak, the question I have before I start this project is I wonder if I have a valve just a tad tight? I have never checked them also I notice the right cylinder does not have much bang to it through the compression release, I know they usually do not but this seems lower than most, its hot and I am just bored here in the A/C so I thought I would get you guys opinion and I will see how this works out.....

my 4 cents worth. it cost twice as much now as it use to. if it was the valves it would run the same w/without the choke pulled out. i'd say its the carb for sure. might be the fuel level in the carb not right, but i think you've still got carb stopped up. go to JDHPubs.com and read up on carbs.

i think your on to it with the vale therory. also try removing the valve cover and see if all your valves are flush with each other. you cold have a piece of carbon stuck to one of your valves....mabey, good luck
