I have a 1945 John Deere GM and i am wondering if anyone can tell me how much compression i should have. currently i have 65 lbs. in cylinder #1 and 73 lbs. in cylinder #2. is this good or should i look into an overhaul. the bore and stroke is at stock.

Haypress:

I don"t have all the specs from "the books" but if I recall the 60-75 lb figure is relatively good compression numbers for an all-fuel stock "G" I think if it had a gas-conversion with higher compression pistons the figure gets up to the 90-110 lb figure. Don"t quote me there are other experts that know better than I.:)

Go to the top of this message board and type something profound like: low compression into the "search for" box...you"ll get alot of hits of different articles. Browse and enjoy

Maybe some nice guys like, F-I-T, Mike Alyward, G/MAN, Gnut, Gman, Duane Larsen, Buickdeer, Drew, etc etc etc can pitch in.

Thans to all, goodluck
Doug
