steering wheel question

A 1949 "A" I looked at recently had a four-spoke steering wheel. I don't know any history of the tractor, but suspect the wheel may have been changed for easier steering since I believe the four-spoke wheels are larger diameter than three-spoke wheels. Can someone verify if an "A" ever had a four-spoke steering wheel as standard factory equipment?

It might be from a manual steering '70', too. We used to call it "Poor Man's Power Steering", since the slightly larger diameter 4-spoke wheel gave you a mechanical advantage over the smaller, three-spoke model. We had an old one that we would swap on when we had to use our '48 "A" with a loader.

It helped a little.

55 50, My 49 A also has a four spoke steering wheel. There is no way of knowing how long it has been on there but I doubt if it came from the factory that way. I think the model R was the first to get the four spoke steering wheel so it is possible someone could have put it on at the factory, but we will never know for sure.
