Hi,
How do I get a faster govenor reponse so the pumps on my 730 Diesel open up sooner so I don't lose rpm's so fast.

Thanks,
Mike

I'd say if you go through the whole adjustment procedure by the book it will work better. There are several places to adjust the linkage. All need to be set right and work freely without binding.

Mike:

First thought that I have is that you could play with the speed control spring under the tubular cover that juts out of the forward upper left corner of the governor. Not sure what effect it might have, but it should control the "sensivity" of the governor as this spring is used to balance the force from the sleeve that the weights push on. If that spring were set looser, it should take less force from the weights sliding the sleeve to close the throttle (remember that the governor closes the the throttle when engine speed increases), so you would need less governor so that your throttle setting still demands fuel.

So, tightening the spring should signal that it takes more governor force to maintain that same throttle position, or rather engine speed, which translates to more engine rpm before the governor pulls it back.

Guessing on my part. I'll have to try that some day on the dyno.

Frank

Yes; I lightened mine when I used to pull in a local antique event that used a dead weight sled timed over a 100' distance. I think I backed it off so it just had some spring tension on it . I figured it should have a little pressure on the sliding thing.
