I've tried and tried and tried again to put my bull gears back on the axles. I just can't seem to even get one on. Very frustrating! I'm sure there are plenty of you who know how. Any suggestions are welcome. - Kenan

You could cut a wood wedge, under the bull gear this would angle enough to roll the gear in and up. I used a metal wood wedge and it worked okay...the gear has to go forward...one person just doesn"t have enough hands.....

you guys can believe this or not but an ih mechanic, working on my cousins ih, when putting the axle back in, put baby powder on everything to make it slid easier through the seals

The splines are a precision taper fit. Really it takes two people, one to raise and move the bull gear forward and one to rotate the axle for spline alignment. If you"re not careful you will ruin the new seal when you run the axle though the housing through the seal. Doesn"t take much to nick it, I alway put a round of tape on the corner edges before inserting. You don"t need to get rough with operating is a easy fit when thing are in place. Proper tightning of the axle nuts very important. I never could get a wrench that large used a pipe wrench and cheater, be done after tires back on the ground.

a thin bar and someone to push the axle to you. the easiest way by yourself is to take the rearend away from the transmission housing.either way it's sometimes frustrating.

Thanks for all the replies. I had thought maybe it would be easier if I take the rear housing away from the transmission housing as "Been there done that" suggested, since the pto and other gears prevent me from jockying the gear around. I'll give it a try!
